Newton County 24 Hour Booking Overview
Newton County Sheriff and Jail
The Newton County Sheriff's Office keeps the 24 hour booking records for the county. The office is at 300 N Spring Street in Jasper, AR 72641. The main phone is (870) 446-5124. The fax line is (870) 446-4814. Office hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The jail is staffed around the clock, but record requests are handled during business hours.
Newton County is one of the smaller counties in the state by population. The jail is small. Most bookings are for traffic, drugs, or other minor charges. More serious cases may be moved to a larger facility in a neighboring county under a jail housing contract.
When a person is booked, the jail logs the core facts. Name, date of birth, charge, and bond all go into the system. That entry is a public record under Ark. Code Ann. § 25-19-103. The Arkansas FOIA defines a public record as any writing, photo, or data kept by a public agency. A booking sheet is a public record. A mugshot is too.

Request Newton County Booking Records
Arkansas FOIA gives state citizens the right to ask for jail booking records. The rule is in Ark. Code Ann. § 25-19-101 et seq. The Arkansas FOIA Handbook puts it simply: a citizen can make a verbal or written request for a public record. No reason needed. No magic word needed.
The custodian has three business days to respond under Ark. Code Ann. § 25-19-105. The same rule caps copy fees at 25 cents per page. Agencies cannot charge for staff time. If the total cost runs over $25, the sheriff can ask for the money up front.
Your request should include the full name of the person, the date of birth, and the booking date. Add a booking number if one is known. State the records you want: booking sheet, mugshot, charge list, bond info. Keep the request clear and short. A verbal request in person also works.
The Attorney General FOIA page has sample letters and a FOIA hotline at (501) 682-2007. If the sheriff denies a request, or does not respond in three business days, you can file in circuit court under Ark. Code Ann. § 25-19-107. The judge can rule in a few days. If you win, the court can make the agency pay your fees.
Note: Juvenile records are closed under Ark. Code Ann. § 9-27-309. A juvenile booking will not appear on the public roster.
Contents of a Newton County Booking Sheet
A Newton County 24 hour booking record has the same core fields as any Arkansas jail. The sheet lists the full name, date of birth, sex, race, height, weight, and address of the person booked. The booking number and booking date are on the sheet. The arresting agency is named. Charges are listed with the Arkansas Code cite. Bond type and amount are set. A mugshot is included in most cases.
Arkansas bond types include cash, surety, property, and own recognizance. A first appearance judge sets the bond, or a local bond schedule is used. Most folks post bond within a day or two of the booking. Those who cannot stay in jail until the case moves forward or the bond is reduced.
A booking sheet may list a hold. A hold means another agency wants custody. A federal hold, a state parole hold, or a warrant from another county are the main types. The person stays until the hold is cleared.
The basic booking info stays public even during a live case. The FOIA Handbook says the basic booking facts become public once the booking is done, even if the larger investigation is ongoing. Some items are closed. Medical screens and mental health notes are held back. Social security numbers are redacted.
